I don't understand what is going on here. I click the link, and it takes me where I want to go, but it just says some random... pathway.
Could you help me out here?

Your portal is running on the "simple clone" skin. I edited the "simple clone" skin's main nav menu settings to remove the up and down bullet graphic URLs. To get there, go to the "simple clone" skin. Then click on "Main Menu". After you make changes, save them and then publish the skin for the changes to take effect.
