Hey Truman,

I read through the whole forum last night, and I have to say your responsiveness and openness to ideas is really incredible.  It confirms our decision to go with you and your product.  It really seems like you're interested in partnering with the churches in order to serve them well by making this product be the best it can be.  Thanks very much!

We're getting everything set up on our end, and as I'm getting authorized users prepared, I'd like to understand exactly what the various permissions allow.  Can you give a rundown on what each of the permisison check-boxes give access to or control over?

Thanks!

Hey Marc,

Thanks for the encouraging words. Feedback from the churches that use Ascribe is so crucial to improving its effectiveness. My goal is to make Ascribe the very best it can be to equip churches for the kingdom. So its great to be able to serve the Lord together through the Internet.

Regarding the authorized user permissions, please read this entry from the manual:

thanks,
Truman

Another question on this front:

Are the permissions universal or can they be group specific?  Can a group administrator deal with the discipleship within that group?  I might want a small group leader to administrate their own discipleship steps, but not have access to the discipleship module in general.

Group perms are very simplistic. Assign a group member the "web edit permission" and he/she can use ANY of the tools for that group. This includes the discipleship module for that group. If the user does not have the general "discipleship" privilege, then he won't be able to access the general discipleship module.

So, for a small group leader, the best thing is to indicate that they are the group leader in their record within the group, and then give them the "web edit permission" only?  Or do I give them the "data entry" and "View Data" as well?

They need to be able to access the database info on their group members, email them, print letters and labels for them, knock off steps of discipleship for their group, and ideally, add their own members, or new people who come, to the database.

No need to give the small group leaders "View Data" or "Data Entry". Just the "web edit permission" for their group will be enough.

Excellent.  I give them an authorized log-in and that permission, and they're off and running?

That should do it. Perhaps a little training session for all your small group leaders would be helpful to them.

Right, of course.  Don't let them drown in the cool technology.  :-)
