A new upgrade was deployed on Friday of last week which quite a number of exciting improvements to Ascribe.

The photo albums have been redesigned to work much more quickly. Now photo albums show the album cover photo on the left hand side of the album. Clicking on a thumbnail image will cause the album to display a photo without page reload to improve speed and responsiveness of the album.

Person and Group Member profile page enhancements
The person and group member record pages have been completely redesigned to be more user-friendly. In the person profile page, you can now also click on the person's picture to upload a new picture and have it upload in place without a page reload.
The person address area has been revamped. Now it is much more user-friendly to manage multiple addresses for each person. Multiple addresses are also all displayed on the person record page; previously only the current default address was display on the person page.

Member Portal
The extranet (member portal) member directory has been redesigned to use a grid rather than spreadsheet format and with larger photos. Privacy settings have been upgraded which allow people to set whether addresses or phone numbers should be displayed in the member directory. Previously the members are member directory did not included addresses; they do now.

When a member views their own profile in the member portal, he/she can upload profile pictures right from the profile page just by clicking on their existing picture or the blank placeholder.

Content Delivery Network
A lot of invisible upgrades were implemented on the backend with the intention of speeding up Ascribe. Photos, files, most graphics, javascript and css are now deployed using a worldwide content delivery network. This makes page loads faster because those web page "assets" will be downloaded from a server closest to the user. The following is a list of the locations around the world from which Ascribe assets are served. Photos, javascript and css files for your Ascribe-powered websites are also served via the content delivery network.

    • Ashburn, VA
    • Dallas/Fort Worth, TX

Minimize/Maximize Sub-Module Icons
The person, household and group modules provide deep functions for every record with multiple sub-modules available for each record. When viewing a record from one of the records, you can choose to view large icons for the sub-modules in order to easily see what options are available. But if you are familiar with using that module, you can set the icons to be tucked away in right side of the section header where they will still be available to you but make the sub-module buttons less distracting.

Discipleship Module - Goal Scheduling
The discipleship module has been given various upgrades. One upgrade of note: when you go to the disciplelship sub-module for a person, you can see a list of all the church-wide discipleship goals and that person's record of which goals they had accomplished and when. For uninitiated goals, you can click on an icon which will allow you to set a future date upon which you would like the goal to be initiated for that person. With this latest upgrade, now when you click on that icon, you will be shown a form with a calendar embedded in it, along with all the goal's steps listed on the right. When you click on a date in the calendar to schedule the start date, the form will automatically update the dates when each step will be due. This allows you to visually see how the start date you select affects the due dates of each step.

The files module was upgraded. Now file folders show the folder icon on the left hand side of the album. Any time you click on that icon while viewing a file, you will be taken to the listing of files for the folder. The file upload mechanism now allows you to upload from any page within a folder. Downloading a file is a much more streamlined process now: clicking a file's download button no longer requires the user to wait while the file download is prepared. Instead the download just starts right away. Editing a file's name and description is a simple matter of clicking on the name or description when viewing the file. You will be allowed to edit them in place, without page reload. You can schedule when a file should be automatically deleted by clicking on the delete button for the file. A dialog window will appear which allows you to select the date and time on which you wish the file to be deleted.

The language module has been almost completely rewritten. The list of language files is now shown more like a "tag cloud" where the files with many words and phrases will be shown larger than files with fewer words and phrases. Clicking on one of the language files will display all the words and phrases for that file in a format that is much nicer look at than its predecessor. Editing a word or phrase is a simple as just clicking it. You will be allowed to edit the word or phrase in place.

If you have edited a word or phrase to something other than its default, the form will allow you to revert the word or phrase back to its default version.

If you have copied the English language files over to another language such as French or Japanese, when editing a word or phrase, as long as it is a language supported by Google Translate, you will be shown a link to automatically translate the text into that target language. Clicking the link will open a separate window with a translation by Google.
  • There was a bug fix to the financial contribution form to prevent a double entry bug for the Internet Exlorer browser.
  • Our underlying server operating system has been upgraded.
  • Ascribe's menu did not work properly in the Safari browser. This new version fixes that.

If you have experienced any issues with your Ascribe since the upgrade, please do not hesitate to let me know about it and I will do my best to resolve any problems quickly.
